Session 3
How to Talk About Giftedness to Teachers, Administrators, Coaches and Instructors

Every person your child comes into contact with, has a preconceived idea of what giftedness is and what it should look like as they are working with your child. In many communities, giftedness is confused with or interchanged with achievement, good behavior and society approved motivation (getting into an Ivy league college, making a lot of money, etc.). Though many gifted children are high achieving and well behaving, for a number of reasons, some of which are associated with giftedness itself, many gifted children are not. This session will provide parents the language to explain their complex children to teachers, administrators, coaches and instructors in a way that helps them understand how the gifted child experiences the world different than others their age. Participants will also learn how to provide suggestions on how to effectively deal with their unusual children in a manner which promotes teamwork and understanding with these important and influential people in your child’s life.
